Road scheme for Kempston streets
NEW traffic measures in Kempston have ‘delighted’ residents of two congested streets.
Councillors James Valentine and Mohammed Nawaz used money allocated to them to improve their ward to instal a new one-way scheme in a bid to stop accidents and confrontations in the area.
The pair had been contacted by residents of Whitbread Avenue and Stafford Road who complained that congestion in their streets was getting worse.
But now that the new scheme has been installed residents are expressing delight.
Jenny Kaminski who lives in Marina Court, said: It’s a weight off our minds. All of my neighbours are delighted with the new system”.
Using ward fund money, which is under their direct control, the two councillors were able to fast-track plans for the traffic calming works.
Councillor James Valentine said: “A particular concern for residents was removing the danger of head on incidents in the area.
Traffic passing in two directions on such narrow streets was a recipe for disaster.
“Hopefully the confrontations and accidents will now be a thing of the past”.
And Councillor Mohammed Nawaz also hailed the scheme as a triumph for the people of Kempston.
He said: “I am pleased that to say that by working with local residents, we have been able to make a real difference”.
