Pupils enrol at rock school
Guitar man calls the tune to inspire budding rock musicians
A guitar legend set up his own rock school for a day in Bedford to teach teenagers about music.
Steve Rothery, of Marillion fame, a band remembered for their hits in the 1980s, gave pupils at St Thomas More School a definitive guide to surviving in the record industry.
He provided the teenagers with a masterclass on how to get the most out of a guitar, with a range of simple tips and techniques.
Mr Rothery said: "I've been asked by various people over the years to do guitar lessons, and when I said I was thinking of doing some work in this area the school contacted me.
"It gives me a chance to pass on what I have learned about music and hopefully inspire some young guitarists."
Mr Rothery's top tips for budding musicians included starting off with an electric guitar rather than an acoustic (it's less of a strain on the learner's fingers in the long run), training their ear by listening to a range of styles of music, and always making sure their
instrument is in tune.
