An elderly woman, claiming to be the owner of two cats found dumped in a wheelie bin, says she believes an animal hater is stealing cats and trying to kill them.
Sheila Budget, of Wood End Road, Kempston, who has owned cats all her life, says she has seen the cats she has taken in over the years slowly disappear.
And after finding out her last two cats, who disappeared several weeks ago, had been dumped in a black bin liner in a wheelie bin in Bedford, through our newspaper, she now believes that someone has been taking them.
One of the cats, named Petrol was heavily pregnant, but has since had four kittens. And the six-month-old cat was called Chunky.
Sheila, 80, said: “I am devastated about this. I was in tears when I saw the paper. I just take in stray cats and over the years I’ve had loads.
“I had about 18 a year-and-a-half ago, and now I only have four. I just thought they were going missing, but now I think someone must be taking them and trying to kill them.”
Tamsin Eastwood from the Bedford and Biggleswade Protection League is now caring for the cats. She says the kitten is still very nervous, but is improving and the new mother and babies are doing well.
