A family who blames their daughter’s bad health on a mould infestation in their flat have hit out at their housing association.

Kerry Barrett, and her partner Matthew Fletcher live at a flat at Queens Drive in Bedford, owned by Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (bpha), with their two children Hannah and Chloe.

But they say Hannah has been diagnosed with asthma and suffers with severe coughing fits, which they claim is down to mould in the house.

Matthew said: “There is mould everywhere in that house and they’re just not doing anything about it.

“The girls’ health is being put at risk, Hannah has asthma and Chloe has ecthyma. It’s unacceptable that we are being made to live like this, it’s embarrassing.

A spokesman for bpha said: “We are sorry that Miss Barrett is unhappy with the condition of her property and have undertaken analysis to investigate the mould growth. This inspection reported that the mould is not caused by any penetrating or rising damp, or structural defects.

“We installed a data logger which recorded high levels of humidity that are caused by lifestyle factors increasing moisture in the air, and this results in mould growth.”
