Morrisons plans given the green light
A NEW supermarket is set to be built in Bedford after plans to open a Morrisons in Ampthill Road were approved on Monday night (April 30).
Members of Bedford Borough Council okayed the scheme, which will also include a petrol filling station, a DIY store, offices, 121 new homes, and a 140-bed hotel.
Developers claim that the scheme will create 699 new jobs, 315 of them part-time.
Mayor of Bedford Dave Hodgson welcomed the verdict, saying it meant both more choice for shoppers and more jobs for Bedford.
He said: “Great news for Bedford that another large company has chosen to locate here.
“Planning permission has now been granted for a large Morrisons with a petrol station.
“Bedford is increasingly being seen as a preferred destination for companies who are bringing much needed jobs and in this case also providing Bedford shoppers with increased choice.”
