b12-1026 Magician Adrian Ward of Ampthill has become a member of the Magic Circle.

A magician pulled it out of the bag after he passed an exam to become a member of the prestigious Magic Circle.

Adrian Ward, of Saunders Piece, Ampthill, has been working as a magician as a hobby for the last five years, but is now set make the job full-time after becoming a member of the Magic Circle.

Adiran, 43, said: “I’m really happy to finally be a member. Some magicians can have a fantastic career and not be a member, but it’s something I always wanted to do, just for the accreditation really.

“I was getting quite a few bookings before then anyway, but since I passed my exam it’s really gone up. I’m planning on making it my full-time job now.”

Adrian, who currently works as call centre consultant as well, got introduced to the world of magic after he saw a youth workr use it as a way of connecting with young people.

He added: “I do a lot of youth work with my local church, Ampthill Baptist Church, and I saw someone use magic as a way of interacting with them and I thought it was a good idea.

“So I joined a local group and it just really grew from there.”

Adrian started working as a magician at children’s parties, but has since branched out into adult functions and weddings.

To be accepted as a member of the Magic Circle, Adrian had to be nominated by another member, then undergo a tough interview and exam.

Adrian said: “The exam is really tough. I actually failed the first time round because the pressure was too much, I think.

“You perform your routine in front of a panel, which includes some really famous magicians, so it really is quite nervewracking.

“It was amazing when I found out I had passed, it meant more to me than passing my degree.”
