A dog was nearly killed when he was savagely attacked by an aggressive pitbull during his daily walk in Biddenham on Friday lunchtime.

Owner Mafalda Clewlow captured the end of the 25-minute attack as photos on her phone, which have since become an internet hit on Facebook, being shared over 10,000 times in a bid to track down the owner and warn other dog walkers.

Reliving the experience Mafalda, 40, said: “It happened so quickly, this dog appeared out of nowhere and just launched at him. Spot is a very submissive dog and he just fell back.

“This dog then bit him underneath, he started ravaging him. I was just in complete shock. I felt so helpless, when you see someone or something you love being attacked like that it’s just horrific.”

And the dog that nearly killed atheyoung King Charles Spaniel is now in the hands of the RSPCA after the owner turned himself in to police yesterday.

Mafalda, who lives in Biddenham with her husband and two children, says her young dog has now been left traumatised by the incident.

She said: “He was quite outgoing before and you can tell he’s a lot more wary now.

“I’m really nervous about taking him out, and wewon’t go back to the park until that dog is caught,

“I’m sure it had been trained as a fighter dog, I have nothing against pitbulls dogs, I just want people to be responsible owners. This man clearly wasn’t because his dog was not on a lead and it should have had a muzzle on.”

And Mafalda, who is an independent consultant for Pampered Chef, heaped praise on two men who came to her help, calling them her “rescuers”.

The owner of the dog has not been arrested and an application for a destruction order will be made for the dog,
