Bedford schoolboy to complete bikeathon for charity

Pedal power is helping a Bedford schoolboy raise pounds for survivors of the Haiti earthquake.

Seven-year-old Leo Policella is donning his cycling helmet this weekend for a five-mile bikeathon to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Although he only learned to cycle last year, the Brickhill Lower School pupil will be cyc-ling from Priory Marina to the Danish Camp and back and has already got more than 350 in sponsorship.

Leo, of Arun Close, Bedford, said: "I learned to cycle last year on Mother's Day. I saw what happened in Haiti and I want to help the children who don't have a mummy or daddy or a house or any food to eat."

His mum Clara said: "I have never seen Leo so determined and proud about doing something."
