GALLERY: Civil War in Great Barford

The Battle for Barford Bridge is re-created by history enthusiasts

Battling for Great Barford, a regiment of Royalists took on the Parliamentarian posse as history hounds re-enacted the English Civil War.

The Battle for Barford Bridge is thought to have been a key moment in the 17th century conflict and was brought back to life by The Sealed Knot recreationist group on Saturday and Sunday.

Historians believe that the Royalists had captured the village prior to the infamous Battle of Naseby in 1645 and the Parliamentarians travelled from Newport Pagnell to Great Barford to recapture the strategically important bridge.

The Battle for Barford Bridge was the highlight of the weekend, but spectators could also get involved in the living history events and stalls at Riverside Meadows.

The Red Arrows aerobatic team were on hand as well, to wow the young and old alike by making a special flypast on Saturday afternoon.
