New unit opens at Shelton Lower School in Bedfordshire
Youngsters at Shelton Lower School are enjoying their new nursery after its unveiling this month.
The unit was officially opened by Mid Bedfordshire MP Nadine Dorries, and is the culmination of several years' work by staff, parents and governors.
Marian Palmer, chair of governors at the Marston Moretaine school, said: "A couple of years ago, for various reasons, the school roll was falling, not least because of the work on the A421 and the closure of access roads from Marston to Shelton.
"We decided to open a three-plus unit to keep the children we had, and to be ready for the plans to build hundreds of extra homes in Marston.
"It took a lot of work, but we were determined. And we have had so much help from people such as our architect and project manager Richard Garner, Dave Money and his father who did all the ground work during the summer break, the staff members who spent almost every day of the holidays doing jobs like painting fences, and the PTFA who raised thousands of pounds.
"It has been a lot of hard work but it has all been worth it."
