A family has been awarded a volunteer of the year award by national charity Epilepsy Action.
Tracy and Steve Jones, of Flitwick, were presented with an award for the Promotion of Public Information and Awareness about epilepsy at an awards ceremony in Leeds.
The couple’s seven-year-old son Sam has severe epilepsy and a number of other conditions.
Together with his parents, Sam has appeared in awareness raising films for Epilepsy Action to show how, despite his epilepsy, so he can still achieve and inspire others.
Tracy said: “We are thrilled to receive this award from Epilepsy Action. Knowing that sharing our experiences has played a part in improving the lives of other families affected by epilepsy is really rewarding.”
When Sam first played a note on his keyboard, Tracy posted the achievement on Epilepsy Action’s website.
It was something that Tracy and Steve could not believe had happened given Sam’s severe disability. That story in itself inspired the charity to contact Tracy.
The family then went on to support the charity’s work appearing in various awareness films.
