Ski trophies for Year 10 student Edmund Fenton

One pupil at Bedford Modern School will be watching the Winter Olympics especially closely next month, after he spent the winter training with the prestigious Red Mountain Racers Ski Racing Academy in British Columbia.

Year 10 student Edmund Fenton came home with a clutch of medals, including winning the 2009 British Columbia U15 Male Ski Cross Championship and reaching the quarter-finals of the Western Canada U15 Male Ski Cross Championships.

Patrick Jerram, director of sport at BMS, said: "Edmund has worked really hard over the past 12 months which is starting to pay dividends.

"I am confident he will be able to transfer his recent success in his personal quest to make the national team."
