Householders threatened to dump their rubbish outside council offices after their bins were not emptied.

A mix up during road resurfacing meant the Dunstable Street homes in Ampthill were forgotten and residents were told by Central Beds Council they would have to wait another week for the black wheelie bins to be emptied.

Robert Cox, who lives in the street, said: “I said if you don’t empty the bins by midday on Tuesday, I will personally bring the rubbish to you.”

The bins were emptied that day.

Councillor Budge Wells, deputy executive member for community services, said: “The bin collection on Dunstable Road has now taken place and we apologise for any inconvenience to residents.

“We will continue to work closely with our bin collection contractor to ensure the bins are collected on a regular basis while the road resurfacing work takes place.”
