Bedford Borough Council will be flying the flag for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.

The distinctive rainbow flag will be hoisted up the council’s flagpole on Monday to mark Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History onth.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said: “The rainbow flag flying at Borough Hall is a small but important symbol of our commitment to equal rights, and I hope it sends a clear message of support and solidarity with LGBT residents living in Bedford.

“In the week of Holocaust Memorial Day we are reminded in the most powerful way of the dangers of bigotry and prejudice in all its forms.”

The council is interested in forging more links with members of local LGBT communities. Those interested can find out more call 01234 276 204 or by email at jo.tester@bedford.gov.uk
