Detectives in Bedford are appealing for two people to come forward who may have witnessed a street robbery in Foster Hill Road in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

One witness has already been located but two others also saw the 19-year-old man being pushed to the ground at 2.30am and threatened.

The victim had been walking home alone when he was approached by two men riding BMX bikes.

They stopped the teenager and asked him to call a taxi for them. When he removed his phone from his pocket he was violently pushed to the ground and threatened with the use of a knife, before grabbing the device and running away.

The victim was left battered and bruised from his ordeal.

DC Mike Armstrong is investigating, he said: “This robbery is typical of so many, a member of the public minding their own business and suddenly subjected to a shocking display threatening behaviour before losing his prize possession. We have already identified one key witness but there are two others who were also in Foster Hill Road at the same time that both the victim and first witness recall. I would urge them to come forward and help us detect this crime.”

The offenders are described as two black men.

The first is aged between 20 and 25, around 6ft 1inchs tall, of stocky build wearing a grey hooded top and grey tracksuit trousers.

The second is aged around 25, 6ft 1inchs tall, also of stocky build and wearing a navy blue hooded top and grey tracksuit trousers.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the offence.
