Almost 25 miles were swum for charity during the Rotary Club of Bedford’s annual Swimathon at Bedford School.

This year, the club nominated Prostrate Cancer and Canine Partners as the main beneficiaries of the sponsorship raised from the event.

The club currently sponsor Ayla, a Canine Partner puppy being trained at Bedford, who will go on to provide assistance to an individual with disabilities.

The money raised on behalf of Canine Partners will be used to fund her ongoing training.

Rotarian Chris Kettler, the organiser of this year’s event, said “The Rotary Club of Bedford is delighted to organise this event from which a large number of charities will benefit, including Prostrate Cancer and Canine Partners, the club’s own chosen charities.

“This year 19 teams took part swimming a total of 1872 lengths of the pool, nearly 25miles, with one team swimming 136 lengths, the most of all”

Each swimmer received a medal in recognition of their achievement and trophies will be awarded to the teams that swam the furthest and raised the most money.
