If living in Bedford brings you down, never fear, happiness is literally round the corner.

Last autumn, the Office for National Statistics declared the people of Bedford are the unhappiest in the country.

Hoping to change this is the Big Bedford Happy day, taking place next month.

It’s a joint project by Bedford Creative Arts and artist Dan Thompson, who is inviting people to get involved now.

He said: “I have a big map of the town and have already asked people which spots make them happy.

“Next, I will be asking who makes them happy, such as shop keepers, teachers or cafe owners.

“All the stories are then plotted on the map so we can see the happiness hotspots.”

Bedford Happy takes place on Saturday, March 29, when people will come across music, poetry, fashion and magic performances in the streets.

Dan said: “People can start at BCA and follow clues where to go next. They might find just one thing and enjoy that, but there will be much for them to discover.”

To get involved, meet Dan in the former Pizza Hut, High Street, from 2pm to 4pm, on Tuesday (February 25); Coffee With Art, 82 High Street, from 9am to 11am, and Bedford Creative Arts HQ, 104 Midland Road, from 1pm to 3pm, on Wednesday (February 26).
