Two students from Bedford School have won places at a prestigious theatre company.
Jonathan Hosking and Josh Garrett are set to follow in some very famous footsteps after both gaining places at the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, which can count Dame Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig, Colin Firth, Sir Ben Kingsley, Orlando Bloom, Sir Derek Jacobi, Hugh Bonneville and Matt Lucas among its alumni.
Jonathan, 14, and Josh, 16, joined 5,000 hopefuls aged 14 to 25 from across the UK earlier in the year to audition for one of the 500 places available, impressing the selectors during their workshops and with their prepared monologues.
Antoinette Keylock, head of academic drama, said: “This is a fantastic achievement. It is very difficult to get in to this distinguished company, let alone first time. We are extremely proud of both boys and look forward to some very exciting theatre.”
The boys are now invited to attend a fortnight of workshops in London during August and will then be invited to become part of the youth arts company.
