The grassed slopes in Turner Way and Rowlandson Way at Manton Heights, Bedford are a colourful sight this spring, thanks to Harpur Ward councillors Colleen Atkins and Louise Jackson.
Purchased with part of their councillors’ ward fund and planted by machine, the crocuses and tulips are now in full bloom covering more than 200 square metres.
Cllr Atkins, pictured with Cllr Jackson, said: “We are delighted with the beautiful sight of the yellow and purple crocuses and red tulips. They have transformed Turner Way and are much appreciated by local people who say the flowers look spectacular and have brightened up the area. We also provided snowdrop and crocus bulbs for other grassed areas in our ward which were planted by residents and they, too, have added colour to the street scene.”
Cllr Jackson added: “If residents have other ideas for areas they would like to see similar flowers, or you’d like to help with planting bulbs or maintaining planters near where you live, please get in touch.”
