Former Bedford Times & Citizen editor Jim Stewart has swapped the hot seat for the football stadiums of Europe by launching a new sports magazine.

Jim has published the first edition of Football Weekends, a monthly publication for football fans who enjoy watching the game live across Europe and the UK.

The 100-page glossy title is on sale at hundreds of outlets nationwide.

Jim, 41, said: “I’ve always enjoyed travelling and football so a few years ago I started arranging trips around seeing a match. It has led to some great experiences in many different countries.

“It soon became clear to me I was far from alone in going abroad on football trips, I began a fan’s website offering tips and advice in my spare time.

“This seemed to be very popular so the idea of a magazine was born, and after leaving the T&C I was able to devote time to making it a reality.”

The magazine contains several guides, giving information on the cities and visiting the stadiums.

Jim, who lives in Biggleswade, has penned most articles of the first issue but will have more contributed features in future editions, after fact-finding trips to Champions League winners Real Madrid, Hungary, Belgium, France and Germany.

The UK is featured too - Coventry and Scottish club St Johnstone the first to be profiled.

The eye-catching visual aspects of the magazine were created by Biggleswade-based graphic designer Matthew Comben.

Jim also worked at the Biggleswade Chronicle for 25 years, the last 18 as editor, before stepping down from both editor roles early last year.

Football Weekends is on sale at selected newsagents now and also online from www.footballweekends.co.uk
