A Bedford Somme hero’s medals, photographs and letters are going up for sale in Suffolk this month.

Private Bertie Warwick of the Second Bedfordshire Regiment, was born in Bishop Stortford but brought up in Bedford.

He died of battlefield wounds on February 1, 1917.

Lockdales, the auctioneers of Martlesham near Ipswich, have Private Warwick’s 1914 Star and British War medal, plus his Death Plaque.

They go under the hammer as one lot, complete with paperwork, pictures, letters home to family and the remains of a flower from France, on January 24.

The catalogue guide price is £200 to £220.

Private Warwick is buried near where he fell in the Ancre Cemetery on the Somme.
