EastEnders star Letitia Dean was a crowd pleaser at Kempston’s Fun Day with organisers hailing it their best event to date.

Fun day committee chairman Tony Pyner said: “It was an extremely good day and the best we have done since taking over it.”

Letitia - better known as Sharon Mitchell - opened the event alongside the town’s mayor after she was contacted through a plumber.

Tony said: “It was a bit of luck. One of the members on the committee had his plumber at his house doing some work and he said he was going to Letitia Dean’s house to do some work so he wrote her a note.”

Money raised from Saturday’s fun day - expected to be in the region of £1,800 - will help local needy people and organisations including Kempston’s St John’s Homes Trust.

The annual event has been organised by Bedford Lions Club and Kempston Rotary Club since 2009.
