Schoolboy grabbed by man at bus stop

Police are hunting for a man who grabbed a teenage boy at a bus stop this morning, Thursday, October 9.

The 13-year-old schoolboy was approached by a man while he was waiting at a bus stop in Ampthill Road at the junction of Victoria Road between 7.30am and 8am. A man approached the victim and grabbed his arm, whilst stroking his hand he asked if the boy if had any cigarettes. The teenager managed break free and the man fled towards Ombersley Road.

Police Sergeant Emma Dearman, investigating, said: “The man had apparently been at the bus stop before the assault and had asked at least one other person if they had any cigarettes.

“He is described as African, about five foot seven inches tall, of medium build, with a foreign accent and wearing a baseball cap and dark blue fleece.

“I am keen to talk with any members of the public who were in the area and may have seen the victim or offender in Ampthill Road. If you were at the bus stop between 7.30am and 8am this morning or if you saw this man in the Ampthill Road or Ombersley Road area I would ask you to contact the police, in complete confidence.”
