The sun shone on a primary school’s open afternoon to celebrate its new playground and classrooms.

Youngsters enjoyed maypole dancing, singing and recorder playing for visitors during the event at Cotton End Primary School.

Bedford Borough Mayor Dave Hodgson cut the ribbon last Thursday (April 23) to mark the opening and schoolchildren released more than 100 balloons to celebrate the special occasion.

The school has four new classrooms, which replace old temporary buildings.

Headteacher Karen Headland said: “They provide a wonderful, airy and spacious learning environment for the children.

“They are ideal - the perfect learning environment.”

The new playground includes a games area, traversing wall and activity track, which was paid for through a grant from the Sport England Primary Spaces project.
