A scheme to help troubled families has secured Central Government funding for another five years.

The initiative aims to support families that have multiple problems such as job loss, health issues, truancy and domestic violence and abuse.

A total of 72 families are currently being helped within the scheme and it is estimated that a further 840 families in Bedford Borough will be eligible for inclusion in the expanded Troubled Families programme.

Bedford Borough Council has been selected for the extra funding because it has been identified as a top performer in delivering positive outcomes through the programme.

Nationally, the government’s Troubled Families programme has now helped turn around the lives of more than 85,000 of the hardest to help households.
