Robbers snatch Rolex off woman, 88, during raid at village home

Thieves stole the watch off the wrist of an 88 year old woman on Friday evening, January 31, after breaking into the house she shares with her 96-year-old husband.

The offenders got in to the house in Hall Close, Harrold, by removing the beading from an upstairs window and then taking the glass out.

After searching the upstairs, they made a noise by trying to kick a door in and this alerted the woman who came into the hallway downstairs to investigate the sound.

She was confronted by the three offenders in the hallway and told them to leave. However, one grabbed her and took her gold wristwatch off.

She bravely asked the offenders not to disturb her husband who sleeps downstairs and cannot leave his bed, but her requests was ignored by the offenders who entered his room anyway, causing obvious upset to both of them.

As well as the gold Rolex, the offenders also took a silver serving tray and left via the front door, walking off in the direction of Church Walk.

The lady went to a neighbour to raise the alarm.

All the offenders are described as being white, in their twenties and slim built with scarves round their faces.

One was around 6ft tall with an Irish accent.

Det Con Andy Boston is investigating this crime and would like to hear from anybody who may have seen the offenders entering/leaving the house at about 9pm on Friday, or any other suspicious behaviour in the area of Hall Close in the days leading up to the offence.
