Relief for Ridgmont as bypass opens

£15.5 million stretch designed to carry 80 per cent of local traffic.

A long-anticipated bypass officially opened on Wednesday.

The A507 Ridgmont relief road was opened by the leader of Bedfordshire County Council, Coun Madeline Russell.

Work on the 15.5 million bypass only began in November 2006, even though the first phase was approved back in 1999.

Residents have long campaigned for the road, which has been designed to carry 80 per cent of heavy traffic away from the neighbouring villages.
