Prebend Street closed after multi-vehicle crash - driver attempts to flee the scene

Prebend Street in Bedford remains closed following a multi-vehicle road traffic collision this afternoon, Thursday, March 26, when a driver attempted to flee the scene.

Police were called at approximately 2.05pm to reports of a man who was driving erratically.

Officers attended the scene and located the vehicle however before they could intervene, the vehicle was involved in a collision with three other vehicles.

The driver of the vehicle attempted to leave the scene on foot but was arrested by officers.

A 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including dangerous driving, being unfit to drive as a result of drink/drugs, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and failing to stop for police. He has been taken to Kempston custody suite for questioning.

The road is expected to remain closed while the vehicles are recovered.
