Prospective Mayors reveal their plans

When voted in as mayor, I will cut council tax and create a more transparent council which people can easily
understand and see how their money is spent.

As residents feel the pinch through spending cuts, I will reduce the mayor’s and
councillors’ pay and
allowances by £200,000.

To bring new life to the town centre I will extend free parking hours, and seek to demolish the eyesore that is Borough Hall to improve the heritage and leisure
opportunities along the river.

I will ensure the whole borough will benefit from the work of the council – for many years rural Bedford, and Kempston, have missed out. Parish councils will be given more powers.

Improvements will be made to services for elderly, vulnerable and disabled people. Children’s services will be enhanced, essential school buses will be reinstated and steps taken to raise GCSE results in the borough’s schools.
