Little ones helped the Mayor of Bedford open their new nursery building at Putnoe Woods Pre-School.

All children aged three to four are entitled to up to 15 hours a week of free nursery education and some families on certain benefits are eligible for the funding when their child reaches the age of two.

Bedford Borough Mayor Dave Hodgson said: “The vastly improved building will help local children to get the best start to their learning. The facility provides the opportunity for Putnoe Woods Pre-school to respond to the future child care needs of parents in the community. With more children now eligible for free pre-school education, this new resource is being delivered in perfect time.”

Councillor Henry Vann, who oversees education at Bedford Borough Council, said: “This resource can be used to host a range of child care offerings. It provides yet more support for both young children, and their families, within our borough.”

The project is an example of partnership working between Bedford Borough Council, Early Year’s providers and The Bedford Athletic Rugby Club, as the pre-school is based on their site.
