Bedford Borough Council's Capital Programme unveiled

Over £33 million will be invested in schools in Wixams and Riseley. In Wixams this will meet the future demand for additional school places, in Riseley a new main block will be built to complete the transformation to a new primary school.

Allhallows will benefit from £2.5 million in resurfacing and improvements to the built environment. There will also be an additional £500,000 investment in road and pavement resurfacing.

Other new projects will include improvements to CCTV at Norse Road cemetery and Bedford Park Cricket Pavilion to bring the building back into use for the community and enhance the facilities within the building including changing rooms and shower facilities. This project is dependent on external funding including contributions from S106, Heritage Lottery Fund and Cricket East.

The Council remains committed to supporting the new Bromham Road cycle and pedestrian bridge, the new railway station at Wixams and replacing the remaining temporary classrooms across Bedford Borough as well as investing in upgrading our roads and pavements.

Bedford Mayor Dave Hodgson said “Despite ongoing government cuts, I am pleased we continue to run an efficient council protecting services and being able to make investment in to new projects to improve services for local residents.

"This is due to good financial management and long term planning.”
