A nursery that has been ranked ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors is now expanding to cater for more children.

Bedford Borough Mayor Dave Hodgson visited the Haven 2000 Nursery and Preschool where he saw plans for a two-storey extension.

He was also given a new chain of office by the children - made out of paper chains.

Manager at the Bedford nursery in Chapham Road, Maria Riley, who was a finalist in this year’s Pride of Bedford Awards, said: “A new two-storey extension will enable us to offer more places without increasing our existing class sizes. We like to consider ourselves small but perfectly formed.”

The family owned nursery was also voted winner at the National Shine a Light Awards for their work helping young children to communicate and express themselves from a very early age.
