Free rolls of orange recycling bags will be given out in a bid to boost recycling rates over the festive period.

Bedford Borough householders will be able to pick up their free rubbish sacks from various locations between December 15 and January 9.

Collection points are at Bedford Central Library, Putnoe Library, Wooton Library, Bromham Library, Kempston Town Library, the Customer Service Centre in Horne Lane, Bedford and the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Barkers Lane, Bedford.

The filled sacks of recyclable rubbish can be left out with bins throughout January.

Mayor of Bedford, Dave Hodgson, said: “This year we are making it a priority to encourage as much recycling as possible during Christmas and New Year. Many households accumulate more recycling over the Christmas period such as wrapping paper and packaging, so we are making free rolls of orange sacks available for residents to use when their orange bin is full.”

During the first two weeks of December, all homes will be supplied with an updated bin collection calendar for the new year in the form of a bin tag.

It will also highlight collection dates over the Christmas period.
