No problems for emergency services on fireworks night

Crews priase Bedfordians

Fireworks night took off without a hitch according to the Beds emergency services.

Despite being called to a number of bonfires to give advice, Beds and Luton Fire and Rescue Service did not attend any major incidents.

The East of England Ambulance Service has praised the public for taking care during the Guy Fawkes' celebrations and were not called to a single job.

It meant emergency services could breathe a sigh of relief during what is often the most hazardous time of the year.

Gary Sanderson, spokesman for the service, told this newspaper: "It is very pleasing that our trust did not receive any firework-related incidents throughout the whole of Beds.

"Last year we received one call to a firework accident, so this year to have no calls is tremendous news."

Despite the thousands in attendance Beds Police said the crowds at Bedford's fireworks display in Goldington Road on Friday did not cause any major problems either.
