With the new Flitwick Leisure Centre on track for its planned opening early in 2016, Central Bedfordshire Council is celebrating after the current facility was rated as ‘excellent’.

After mystery visit and a one-day assessment from an industry professional, a report concluded that, “the service can demonstrate improvement across all key areas including budget, quality, customers/stakeholders and people.”

The ‘excellent’ mark was also awarded for areas such as, friendly staff; an accessible website that is informative, quick and easy to navigate; its comprehensive and innovative fitness programme; and concessionary pricing and a wide range of activities for young people, including gym membership.

Cllr Tony Brown, deputy executive member for community services, said: “We are proud of our leisure centres and services and we strive to offer the best quality possible for our residents, as well as delivering value for money. Quest has given us the assurance that lifestyles@flitwick does just that.

“The brand new leisure centre is set to be delivered on target early in 2016 and this will increase the opportunities for the local community to play sport and take part in physical activity more regularly. While we are very much looking forward to its opening, it is important that we maintain a high level of service in the existing facility, which will remain open until the new state-of-the-art centre is open.”

Quest was developed by Sport England and is the nationally recognised industry standard scheme that measures the level of performance, good practice and improvement of sports facilities. Designed by and for the industry, it helps managers enhance and continue to improve the quality of service provided to customers.
