New album release for cancer survivor

Bedford singer's debut record

A "tremendous fight" with cancer and the music world has finally paid off for a woman as she launched another album to raise money for charity.

Elaine Huckle, of Church End, Kempston, has released the album, The Voice of Elaine Huckle.

The album was inspired by her battle with cancer and determination to perform at the highest level.

It will be sold online through the Classic FM Music Makers Charity to support disadvantaged children and adults.

Mrs Huckle said: "When I was seven I was asked to sing in church and I had never really sung before then.

"My parents didn't know that I could sing and they couldn't believe it really.

"Since then I always knew that I wanted to be a singer and just worked at it."

Mrs Huckle, who moved to Bedford from Birmingham four years ago, continued to sing with Trinity College in London.

However, as soon as her career began to take shape she was diagnosed with cancer.

Mrs Huckle said: "It was during this time that I went to Jerusalem and sang The Holy City overlooking the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.

"When I came back to England I began to get better.

"People in Birmingham asked me to make an album which did very well and raised money for Cancer Research."

On her return from the Holy Land, Mrs Huckle's music career took off again and she was contacted my Louis Demetrius Alvanis, a classical pianist, and the pair began working together.

She also performed throughout Europe and in a televised production of Benvenuto Cellini in the Berlioz Festival in Lyons, France.

Mrs Huckle added: "I wasn't from a particularly musical family or a rich family.

"Hopefully my experience will help to inspire people.

"I had a tremendous fight not just with cancer, but also in the music world so I had to work very hard and be tenacious to get to where I am today.

"I didn't have many opportunities when I was young, I just hope that one day other children have this opportunity and can learn about beautiful music."
