A woman fears she has been duped by cowboy builders after handing over thousands of pounds and being left with an unfinished kitchen.

Jaswinder Kaur has spent almost a decade saving for her dreamkitchen but after months of work demands for more money, her dreams have been shattered.

She has been left with a wobbly kitchen sink and leaking roof on the new extension that was built to house her plush new kitchen.

The 51 year old, of Kempston, said: “I bought this house 10 years ago and it was always my dream to extend the kitchen and have a nice big kitchen because I like cooking and socialising.

“I feel depressed, I don’t feel like living here.”

Heartbroken Jaswinder, who has handed over £16,000 for the extension, kitchen and downstairs bathroom, was also planning to have her 81-year-old disabled mother to visit once the works were completed.

Her kitchen has been left unfinished.

“My dad looks after her so to help them out and let my dad have respite time, it was my intention to bring my mother around here,” she said.

“I just get really upset because I keep thinking what if my mother dies and the house has never been completed.”

The mother-of-one was quoted £16,500 for the building work and took out a loan to pay for it.

She said: “They can talk the talk that is why I thought they knew what they were doing.”

The builders demanded another £6,000 to complete the project but after months of handing over cash, Jaswinder refused.

She says since she told builders there is no more money left they have stopped turning up and ignore her calls and texts.

“Now they know I haven’t got the money they are not going to hang around,” she said.

Jaswinder is now writing a letter to the builders to let them know that she will be taking legal action.

She has also sought out other builders to get quotes to complete the works, but says she will have to save some money before the project can be completed.
