MPs' expenses - rival accuses Nadine of u-turn

Labour candidate for Mid Beds constituency claims that Nadine Dorries had been expected to move to Bedfordshire after her election in 2005

The Labour Party rival of Nadine Dorries has questioned why she has not relocated to Mid Beds.

David Reeves is his party's prospective parliamentary candidate for Ms Dorries' constituency, and lives in Potton.

He reckoned she had been expected to move to the area after being elected.

Mr Reeves said: "When Ms Dorries came here four years ago she said she would move to the constituency.

"She didn't say it would be at the expense of the taxpayer.

"MPs already get paid a good salary, a lot more than most commuters living in Bedford and Flitwick earn."

Mr Reeves was referring to comments Ms Dorries made to the Times & Citizen on election night in 2005.

Back then she had stated: "I am a fresh face and I think people have recognised that I am someone who has come here wanting to live here.

"There are a lot of voters in Mid Beds who have only lived in the area for three years or so.

"Next time around I will be a local candidate too."
