MP holds meeting to fight Covanta plans
A public meeting to oppose plans for a giant waste incincerator is being held on Saturday (September 25).
MP for Mid Bedfordshire Nadine Dorries will be holding the meeting at The Forest Centre Marston Vale between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
Mrs Dorries will host the public meeting aimed at developing a co-ordinated strategy of public opposition to the proposed plans of the American waste giant Covanta to impose a Wembley stadium sized incinerator, at Rookery Pit South near Stewartby.
The meeting will be attended by the Marston Moretaine Action Group and concerned members of the public.
Mrs Dorries said: "I have already made the feelings of local residents known to the Secretary of State and discussed this with the Prime Minister who has said that we need to look for more innovative ways of disposing of waste than incineration.
"Unfortunately, the IPC quango, which is to be abolished by the Government, has put the Covanta proposal through to the second stage of public consultation.
"It is important that as many people as possible who are prepared to do their bit in order to fight this off attend."
