The annual Elstow May Festival took place on the green at Elstow Abbey.

Elstow School’s tradition of Maypole Dancing was in full swing, delighting the crowds.

Some children processed behind the carriage carrying The May Queen, her Coachman, and last year’s May Queen. The crowds saw the Queen crowned, followed by the dancers weaving the ribbons in a Spiders Web and a Double Plait, despite windy conditions.

The ceremony was completed with some traditional English Country Dances by pupils.

Headteacher Jenny Winder said “School life is now so very busy but we try to find time to teach children some of the old English traditional dances and it is a pleasure to be part of the community in this way.”
