A man obsessed with EastEnders star Samantha Womack -better known as Ronnie Mitchell - has been spared jailed.

Peter Rombough, 22, pleaded guilty to stalking at an earlier court hearing and, yesterday (Monday), he was sentenced at Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court to eight weeks in prison suspended for 12 months.

The court earlier heard how Rombough, of Norwich Road, Ditchingham, Norfolk, visited the Cardington home of Mrs Womack on September 4 and delivered a note through her letterbox.

Five days later he was seen outside the soap star’s home in the early hours of the morning. The actress noticed his presence after he used a light on his phone.

Later that morning Mrs Womack’s husband confronted the man outside and asked him to leave.

Rombough sent the pair Twitter messages after he left that day, telling them that he never intended to cause alarm.

After being arrested he had admitted to the police that his fantasies about Mrs Womack had started in 2009 when he was 16.

He said he had an unhealthy crush on her that was out of control.

As part of his sentence Rombough must not contact the victim and must not go within 10 miles of Cardington village.

He is subject to a 12 month supervision order including a mental health requirement.

He was also ordered to pay £235 in costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
