A man stole two TVs from B&M based at Alban Retail Park, London Road, Bedford, at lunchtime yesterday (Sunday, September 6).

He was challenged by a security guard but managed to escape in a car. Police attended the scene but no cordon was put in place despite reports that shoppers were unable to visit or leave the car park during the incident.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a theft from B&M at around 12.30pm on Sunday. It was a busy shopping day and the car park was gridlocked before police arrival.”

A witness said: “We heard someone had stolen some TVs and that he managed to drive off but then hit another car on his way out. It caused chaos and no one was able to leave the car park for what seemed like ages.”

No arrests have yet been made. Call police on 101.
