A make-up artist in training from Slovakia has come runner-up in a national competition.

Veronika Holomanova, who now lives in Queens Park, Bedford, entered the Jane Iredale Make-up Competition, which was held at The Savoy Hotel, London on June 15.

Veronika, 30, joined the part-time course in make-up at Bedford College.

Melissa Peacock, of Bedford College said she immediately recognised her potential.

She said: “She is so talented that I thought we must enter her for a competition and with the guidance of one of our former students Roxanne Lafratta in the special qualities of Jane Iredale cosmetics, she was one of only six to get through to the national finals.

“Hair and beauty is such a flexible career. People can join us for full-time, part-time or apprenticeship courses and progress on to working for a salon or spa, perhaps later working for themselves, as Roxanne has done with great success.

“It is a booming business worldwide and locally as hair and beauty treatments are something which women never give up, and young men are increasingly aware of the benefits of making the most of themselves.”
