It has been 14 years since Kempston magician Christopher Garside last hit the newspapers for winning a major award - now he is back again.
Christopher, 25, set up his own entertainments company, Krisgar Entertainments, started out at the tender age of 3 when he performed his first trick from a Sooty Magic set and has performed ever since.
Now he has become Children’s Entertainer of the Year 2013 - 2014 at the Watford Association of Magicians (WAM).
The contest took place on December 27 when Christopher competed against other entertainers, including a previous winner of the UK Children’s Entertainer award.
The competition was judged by 60 children who attended the event - they were all given a juggling ball which they had to place in a box that had a picture of the performer they felt was the best.
Krisgar, as he is known professionally, said: “When my name was read out as the winner, I was invited back to the stage and asked to make a speech. I was totally overwhelmed by the whole experience For the first time in my life I was speechless, this never happens to me - just ask my fiancée!”.
The last time Krisgar won a major award was when he was only 11 years old at a Haven Holidays talent competition where he won a place in the final 40 at national level beating 13,000 other contestants.
Krisgar joined WAM in 2011 and is now among the region’s top children’s entertainers and has a membership of around 70 members. There is a long list of famous magicians linked to the club.
Krisgar said: “WAM is such a friendly club and everyone is willing to share their knowledge and experience to help each other out.”
Krisgar Entertainments provide quality entertainment for children’s birthday’s, christenings, weddings, schools all year round, performing all genres of magic.
Krisgar has successfully run his business for a number of years performing more than 200 shows a year.
He added: “I count my blessings that despite the recession I have found something I enjoy doing and have been able to create a successful business out of it. More than that I love the fact I am responsible for creating many happy memories for families at birthday parties and weddings alike.”
In the competition Krisgar performed a ventriloquist routine with his signature puppet Tricky Teddy and even made a child volunteer fly on a magic carpet.
In the past winners have been invited to perform at the prestigious Blackpool Opera House in February to compete for the UK title.
