Youths run amok

Lamppost pushed over, window broken and alcohol seized in town

VANDALS damaged a lamppost, broke the window of a post office and disturbed residents in a street, just weeks after police claimed that antisocial behaviour had dropped by seven per cent.

Youths ran amok in Shefford on Friday night, pushing over a lamppost in Southfields and breaking the lamp on top of it.

The vandals had run off by the time police arrived just after 8.30pm, and road contractors Amey had to send engineers to the road to make immediate repairs, as the wires emerging from the top were still live.

One of the vandals was wearing a light-coloured hooded top, while another was dressed in a jumper with black and white horizontal stripes.

In an unrelated incident, the window of Shefford Post Office was smashed, while police seized a large quantity of alcohol from another group of youths.
