Youth worker wins award
A youth worker has started the new year with a celebration of her year-round dedication to the community with a special award.
Nicola King, who has been a youth worker for 20 years, has been named as a regional winner in the vInspired National Awards.
The annual awards are the largest of their kind, celebrating the achievements and dedication of young volunteers and youth workers.
Nicola said: “It’s such an honour to be presented with this award. You don’t do youth work to get awards – knowing you’re helping people is enough motivation. But it’s great to know that people appreciate what I do, and I hope that this might inspire other people to get involved.”
Nicola has been named regional winner for the South East in the Outstanding Contribution To Youth Work category, which celebrates the dedication of youth workers who inspire young people to volunteer.
They aim to challenge negative attitudes towards young people by highlighting the creativity, motivation and generosity of some of the most inspiring volunteers in the country.
She currently works for Aragon Housing Association helping young people to reach their potential through volunteering.
She has shown enormous dedication and creativity in her work with young people, going out of her way to find opportunities to inspire and motivate the young people she works with, many of whom have experienced difficult pasts and struggled with education.
The regional winners will be shortlisted to national finalists in January 2013 with the national award winners revealed at a star studded awards ceremony at Camden Roundhouse in March 2013.
