Young Amps power into National Cup
Convincing performance downs previously unbeaten Towcester
Ampthill recorded a convincing 27-0 win against a previously unbeaten Towcester to win the East Midlands U17 Cup for the first time and progress into the National U17 cup competition.
Towcester were well prepared and had won through to the final against some good opposition.
However, Amps put on a great display of 15-man attacking rugby throughout the game, scoring five tries and converting one without reply.
From the first kick Ampthill exerted pressure on the Towcester forwards and quickly scored their first points from a well worked back row move off a scrum in the Towcester 22.
Two further tries and a conversion were scored before half time from moves that combined backs and forwards.
Amps continued to play attacking rugby, but put themselves under pressure early in the second half when they had two players sin binned.
However, the pressure was eased when Towcester also had a man yellow carded.
Despite these losses, Ampthill managed to stretch their lead and, by the final whistle, had won the game comfortably.
