Writer is featured on BBC’s Meet The Author
MBTC-08-01-13- Mark Frary. Ampthill. Author Mark Frary has written a book documenting the life of ski and travel pioneer Erna Low.
A writer was featured in BBC sow Meet The Author following the publication of his new book.
Mark Frary was interviewed for the BBC News show, which aired last Thursday, about his new book Aiming High - The Life Of Ski And Travel Pioneer Erna Low.
Mark, who lives in Ampthill with his wife and three children, said: “I was really surprised to be asked to go on the show, because they usually have quite well-known and established authors. So it was a bit of an honour really.
“They’ve had Kate Mosse and Michael Rossen in previous week, so I felt very privileged to be asked. It was filmed on New Year’s Eve at Erna Low’s office in South Kensington, because that’s where I did a lot of my work on the book.”
He added: “I think they probably asked me to go on because they like to mix the interview with some film footage, and Erna Low had some footage of the first group of students she took skiing, so they used that as well.”
Mark has worked as a travel writer and part-time journalist, which led to his interest to Erna Low and her company.
The book charts the interesting life of ski and travel pioneer Erna Low, who set up her won skiing company during the Second World War in the 1940s.
Mark decided to write the book as this year marks the 80th anniversary of the birth of the travel firm, which was one of the first to take people skiing abroad.
Mark, 43, has also worked previously as a scientists and his previous boos have generally been based around science.
He added: “I found the subject of Erna Low, her life and her company really interesting. It is quite different from the books I’ve done before but I really enjoyed writing it. It was great going on Meet The Author, it was fantastic exposure for the book.”
