Woman in train incident is named
A woman from Westoning, who was believed to have been hit by a train, has been named as Elizabeth Barnes.
The 20-year-old, of Clayhill Farm, Westoning, died on Thursday from multiple injuries. She was found on the railway track near Westoning.
Emergency services attended the incident, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Elizabeth, also known as Lizzy, was a former Harlington Upper School Student.
School headteacher Shawn Fell has paid tribute to her.
He said: “It was with great sadness that we heard the news of the death of Lizzie Barnes.
“Lizzie was a gentle, friendly and conscientious student. She was a valued member of our school community and will be greatly missed by her friends and teachers. “Our thoughts are with her family at this time.”
A spokesman for the British Transport Police (BTP) said: “BTP officers attended the line near Westoning on Thursday, December 6 after the discovery of a woman’s body on the tracks.
“The incident was reported to BTP at 12.04pm and was also attended by Bedfordshire Police.
“Medics from Bedfordshire ambulance service also attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned today.
