An Air Cadet squadron is warning people to be on their guard after bogus callers have been knocking on doors asking for donations.

The imposters, believed to be a couple of young boys and a girl, have reportedly been knocking on homes in Clapham, Cranfield and Marston asking for donations for charity Help For Heroes.

They have been claiming to be from the Bedford squadron.

Civilian instructor Chris Wiggins said: “Luckily enough, all three of the ones we know about are because the people targeted are linked to the squadron so they knew they were bogus.

“I’m sure this has happened a lot more than the three times we know about.

“Cadets of any kind do not go knocking on doors asking for donations for Help For Heroes. We want to let people know and make sure they do not hand over money to these people.”

Bedfordshire Police are currently looking into the matter.

Sergeant Clare Thomas, of Ampthill Local Policing Team, said: “We have had a report from a resident in Cranfield concerning this. We take all complaints of this nature seriously and we will be continuing in our efforts to identify the perpetrators.

“We would remind people to carefully check the identity of any callers to their homes if they do not know them.”
